Asia is a continent that is home to an incredibly rich tapestry of cultures. Throughout much of history Asian nations were some of the most culturally and scientifically advanced societies in the world. The same is true of Asian medical systems. Chinese Medicine (also known as Oriental Medicine), Tibetan Medicine, and Ayurveda are among the oldest extant medical systems in the world today. Even in contemporary society where technologically based medicine tries to dominate, patients continually turn to the wisdom and therapeutic efficacy of classical medical systems. They do so because traditional Asian medical systems are as rich and therapeutically effective as modern western medicine for a vast number of health issues. The Institute for Classical Asian Medicine was created to educate health care professionals as well as the general public about various Asian medical traditions. We believe that even in a world dominated by technology, the experiences of traditional medical systems that are thousands of years old have much to offer modern patients and can help alleviate human suffering.
