Tung’s Acupuncture for Pain Management – Theoretical Foundations

Tung’s acupuncture is a classic medical system that makes extensive use of extra points not known in conventional acupuncture. Much more important, however, is the in-depth theory underlying this practice – a theory that is informed by a deep understanding of classical acupuncture practice based in Yin-Yang, Five Phases, Zang-Fu and Channel concepts.

In this class we will present a deep look at the theory underlying Tung’s acupuncture. In doing so we will explore channel and Zang-Fu relationships, concepts of the unity of humans to the natural world, and how to exploit these relationships in the therapeutic application of needles. We then discuss some of the most commonly used points in pain management, a look at global Zang-Fu treatment strategies, and a short theoretical introduction to bloodletting. We will also discuss how these theoretical guidelines and treatment strategies provide a deeper understanding of conventional acupuncture points.

A Master Class on the Five Transport Points

The five transport points are some of the most commonly used acupuncture points. Nevertheless, few modern therapists have a truly comprehensive understanding of how important these points really are, and how they are used to treat complex Zang-Fu or channel patterns. The Nan Jing even goes so far as to urge most illnesses to be treated only with these points! This course begins with an overview of classic text references and provides a thorough analysis of how the five transport points are used in practice. We will discuss the Qi dynamics of these points, as they are based on symptoms or time based relationships, and the effective selection of points for supplementing or draining the channels. Then we look at the relationship between Tung’s points and the five transport points and the integration of the latter within Tung’s paradigms. Hands on practice of pulse diagnosis will be done during our November course..

Course is taught in English (German translation has been cancelled for the online course). The course documents are in English. Please also note time zone differences for those not in Germany!
